Calendula Ointment

Calendula Ointment

Twig Calendula Ointment is a simple, golden herbal balm made for skin that needs gentle, everyday care — from dry patches to nappy rash to post-sun softness.

Calendula is one of the most enduringly useful plants in any herbalist's toolkit. It's gentle enough for the most sensitive skin, including newborns, and has been used for generations to soothe, soften, and support the skin's own processes.

This ointment is made with one key ingredient done well: calendula infused slowly into organic olive oil, then set with local beeswax. That's essentially it. No fragrance, no essential oils, no extras that could cause a reaction. Just a rich, golden balm that gets on with the job.

When the flowers are in season, I make my infusions fresh from locally grown and wildcrafted calendula. You can smell the difference.

FAQ

Is this safe for babies and newborns?
Yes, it's one of the gentlest things you can put on baby skin. It's fragrance-free, essential-oil-free, and made with a very short ingredient list. Patch test first, as you would with anything new on a young baby.

Can I use it for nappy rash?
Many parents do exactly that. It creates a soft protective layer on the skin while the traditional soothing properties of calendula do their thing.

How is this different from the Chickweed Ointment?
This one is simpler and gentler — one herb, no extras. The Chickweed Ointment has a broader blend and tends to be chosen when itch or a rashy reaction is the main concern. If you're unsure, the comparison table above should help.

Does it contain anything that could cause a reaction? It's one of the simplest formulas we make — just infused calendula oil, beeswax, and vitamin E. No fragrances, no essential oils. If someone has a known sensitivity to plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae), they should patch test or check with their health provider first.
How long does a jar last? Depends on how you use it. Used on one small area daily, a 50g jar will last a couple of months. Used across the whole family for various things, it goes faster.
Can I use it on my face? Absolutely. It's rich, so a little goes a long way on facial skin — warm a tiny amount between your fingertips first. Lovely on dry patches, around the nose in winter, or on any area that just needs a bit of extra care.
